The St John's Centre brings its ESOL classes back after lockdown.

St John’s Centre is a small, independent community centre that has been at the heart of Old Trafford since 1982. The Centre offers adult learning, volunteer opportunities, activities and events to bring people together, as well as space for many community groups. It is a shared place of trust for this diverse neighbourhood.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) has always been a core part of the Centre's activity, with courses and groups running at several different levels. These all had to stop during lockdown, and though some went online, there’s no substitute for face-to-face language learning.

Now ESOL is back at the Centre. Their volunteers in the picture above have restarted their regular Friday morning group. They have been sharing their thoughts about COVID and lockdown, which has given them plenty to talk about. Trafford College are also providing an ESOL conversation course. The Centre and its learning partners, Trafford College and the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) are planning a full programme of ESOL in September. If you’d like to be kept informed about this, please go to www.stjohnscentre.org and scroll down on the Home page so you can put your email in the “Subscribe” box, or call the Centre on 0161 872 7795 if you’d rather be contacted another way.
